On Friday, Feb. 24, the Bearcat boys traveled to Halstad to take on Norman County West (NCW).
NCW got off to a red hot start in this one as they would get out to an early 15 point lead in the first half. The Bearcats were not able to slow down the hot shooting from NCW from the 3-point distance, as they would go six of nine from deep, in the first half. KCC was able to get the game within single digits in the final minute of the first half. The Bearcats were down nine in the final seconds of the half as they had a 3-point basket rim out at the buzzer. NCW would lead at the half.
In the second half, KCC did not waste much time making this game close again as they would chip away. KCC narrowed the lead to three, when senior Trevor Coffield hit back to back 3-point baskets giving the Bearcats the lead back.
Cole Johnson had a big second half for KCC to also help in the big run back to the lead. The game would go back and forth down the stretch as the Bearcats made some big free throws to hold a three point lead in the final seconds. NCW would get a couple decent looks with a chance to tie, but the buzzer would sound and the Bearcats would win 58 to 55.
Scoring: Coffield 18, C. Johnson 15, Bryden Swenson 12, Jadyn Swenson 7, Andrew Christenson 4, and Spencer Billings 2.
On Monday Feb. 27, the Bearcats would close out the regular season in Fisher to take on the Climax Fisher Knights. The Bearcats came out of the gates strong on both ends of the floor getting out to an early 15 point lead. The Knights didn’t waste much time to get back into it as they came storming right back tying the game at 23. The game would go back and forth for the remainder of the half as KCC would lead 31 to 29 at the half.
As the second half got underway it was all Knights as the Bearcats struggled to get some close looks at the basket to fall. The Knights played well down the stretch as they were strong on the glass. KCC inched back into it near the end but just was never able to close the gap as they would fall in this one 58 to 50 finishing the season at 14-8.
Scoring: B. Swenson 22, Billings 10, Christenson 5, C. Johnson 4, J. Swenson 4, Jacob Ristad 3, and Coffield 2.
On Thursday, March 9, 7:45 p.m. at UMC, the fifth seeded Bearcats will play against the fourth seeded Northern Freeze.
