Greenbush, Minn. - Dr. Larry Kruger, 86, Greenbush, Minn., died Jan. 31, 2013 in Altru Hospital of Grand Forks, N.D.
Dr. Larry Kruger was born Elmer Lawrence Kruger, the son of Lawrence and Genevieve (Nygaard) Kruger May 5, 1926 in Crosby, Minn.
He was the oldest child of the family and began his education in Park Rapids, Minn. While his father was stationed in Fort Gordon, Ga., he completed his high school education at Richmond Hill, Ga. He continued his undergraduate and medical education at the University of Heildelberg, Germany and doctorate of medicine from the Medical College of Georgia. He completed his internship at Swedish Hospital in Minneapolis, Minn.
In 1957, he married Margaret “Peggy” Doell, a young nursing student from Grand Rapids, Minn.
Dr. Larry practiced medicine for 50 years in several Minnesota communities including Nashwauk, Hallock and established his practice in Greenbush in 1977. He was also a very active community leader. He was an active Lions Club member for over 50 years and a charter member of the Greenbush-Badger Lions serving as president four different terms. He was President of the Greenbush Town and Country Club for five years as well as being EMS Medical Director and a member of many other various Boards of Directors over the years.
He is survived by his wife of 55 years, Peggy; six children, Heidi (Bob) Wold, Philadelphia, Pa., Gretchen (Dennis) Moen, Eagan, Minn., Kathy (Rick) Sovde, Greenbush, Minn., David Kruger, Wannaska, Minn., Alice (Barry) Kusnerik, Dickinson, Texas and Holly (Tony) Deschene, Argyle, Minn; 17 grandchildren, Abigail and Adam Wold, Kyle, Eric and Patrick Moen, Samantha and Trent Sovde, Elysia, Sarah and John Kruger, Alexis, Emily, Andrew and Grace Kusnerik, Alec, Madison and Josephine Deschene; two great-grandsons, Levi Sovde and Jaxon Kruger; three sisters, Joe Ann Hyder, Denver, Colo., Genevieve (Tom) Kirkland, Westminster, Colo., Mary Buchanan, San Antonio, Texas and one brother, John Kruger, Denver, Colo.
He was preceded in death by his parents, an infant brother and his Aunt Margaret Nygaard.
Memorial Services were held Feb. 4 in Gieseke Funeral Chapel of Greenbush with Dr. Kruger’s family conducting the service.
Memorials are preferred to the Dr. Larry Kruger Memorial Scholarship Fund.
Gieske Funeral Chapel of Greenbush was in charge of arrangements.
