MARVIN LARSON
11/27/2013

Rivers Junction - Marvin Larson, 74, Rives Junction, died in his sleep Nov. 11, 2013 at his home after complications from cancer.
Marvin was born to Axel and Edith Larson in the small farming community of Hallock, Minn. He moved to Michigan in 1965 and lived in Albion, Parma, Jackson, and finally Rives Junction.
Marvin was a dedicated teacher who touched and educated the lives of many.  He began his teaching career at Albion High School in the 1960’s after serving in the Army. He then went on to teach at Western High School in the 1970’s and after getting his Master’s Degree in Education from MSU, taught at the Capital Area Career Center from which he retired in 1996.
He loved the farming life of his childhood and working with his hands. During his retirement he recreated this enjoyment by raising llamas, growing alfalfa hay, and renovating the farmhouse on the property in Rives Junction. He spent many hours tooling around on a John Deere tractor that one of his friends had dubbed the “fishing boat.”
He contracted cancer in 1995 and had been in the expert care of the U of M Medical Center since that time. Despite many setbacks during a long, hard-fought battle, he lived with the disease for nearly 20 years and was one of their longest surviving patients.
Marvin was a loving father, husband, grandfather and friend to all.
He is survived by his two sons, Greg Larson and Jeff (Lisa) Larson, and his daughter Kim (Harry) Burrowes, as well as his grandchildren, Kayla and Marla Larson, and Kirsten and Kylie Burrowes.  Additionally he is survived by his sister, Melba (Duane) Younggren, many loving nieces and nephews, and his dear companion and guardian angel, Kathy Stone, who was at his side until the end.
He is predeceased by his wife of 25 years, Kathleen, who died in 2004.
A memorial service was held Nov. 24, 2013, with reception following at the Cascades Manor, 1970 Kibby Road, Jackson, Mich.
A scholarship fund in Marvin’s name has been set up at the Capital Area Career Center and any memorial donations will go to the funding of this account.
