The Lancaster School Board met in regular session on Wednesday, February 19, 2014, at 7:25 p.m. in the district office. The following members were present: Diamond, Hanson, Jerome, Nelson, Nordin, and Weleski. Also present were Supt. Swiontek, Athletic Director Evan Hanson, Teacher Rep. Michaela Sustad, and Mendy Coffield.
Chairperson Hanson called the meeting to order and took roll call. The agenda was approved with one addition on a motion by Weleski, second by Nordin. UC.
On a motion by Weleski, second by Nelson, the minutes of the regular January 22, 2014, school board meeting were approved as presented. UC.
On a motion by Hanson, second by Nordin, Electronic Funds Transfers (EFTs) were approved in the amount of $27,234.72, January Payroll EFTS $79,748.35, and the bills were approved for payment as presented in the amount of 98,571.66. Check numbers 36807-36869. UC.
The Budget and Treasurer’s reports were reviewed.
Supt. Swiontek presented the Administrative Report:
1. School Board Appreciation Week – Supt. Swiontek thanked the board members for the work they do for Lancaster School staff and students and the also for their concern for the community of Lancaster. Mrs. Hess’s second graders made thank you cards for the board. Mrs. Alme’s class made a poster that the elementary students and staff signed. Mrs. Peterson’s FACS students baked a platter of delicious bars.
2. The March board meeting changes to 8:00 p.m.
3. The next Long-range planning meeting will take place at 6:30 p.m. in the multi-purpose room.
4. The science room will have the asbestos time abated in June. We will take the low quote from Building Systems Corporation.
On a motion by Weleski, second by Diamond, and carried: Be It Resolved, that the Board of Education of Independent School District 356, adopts the proposed 2014/15 school year calendar with 174 student contact days and 6 teacher workshop/parent teacher conference days, totaling 180 days for the school year.
On a motion by Diamond, second by Jerome, and carried:  Be It Resolved, that the Board of Education of Independent School District 356, accepts the $6,091 donation from Wikstrom Telephone Company.
The meeting was adjourned at 7:46 p.m. on a motion by Weleski, second by Hanson. UC.
The next board meeting will be held on Tuesday, March 18th at 8:00 p.m. in the district office.
