Kittson Central School Board Meeting
The Board of Education of #2171 met in regular session May 27, 2014 at 8:00 p.m. in the Kittson Central boardroom.  Members present were Mark Johnson, Matt Kuznia, Katie Langen, Crisa Mortenson, Richard Mortenson, Don Schuler and Mike Sugden.  Also present were Superintendent Jaszczak, Terry Ogorek, Mark Christenson, Margie Holmgren and Sandra Lindgren.
The meeting was called to order by Chair Sugden.  The agenda was approved by Johnson, seconded Langen and carried by all in favor.  Motion Kuznia, seconded Schuler to approve the April 29, 2014 board minutes.  Motion carried.  The bills having been audited and found correct were ordered to be paid on motion by C. Mortenson, seconded Schuler and carried by all in favor.  Bills were approved for $65,089.51 and post payment bills (hand payables) were approved for $8,985.88.  End of the month balances were:

Respective members and administrators gave board and administrative reports.  Food Service of America has developed an online ordering system.  FSA will provide a 1.25% discount on all products.  Motion R. Mortenson, seconded Langen to pay this bill weekly instead of monthly.  Motion carried.  Motion Langen, seconded C. Mortenson to approve the agreement with Johnson Controls for three years of $22,700 per year.  Motion carried.  Motion Schuler, seconded Kuznia to accept the resignation of Jeff Keller, Social Studies teacher.  Motion carried.  Motion Langen, seconded C. Mortenson to hire Kari Jo Jensen as 7-12 Social Studies teacher effective the beginning of the 2014-15 school year.  Motion carried.  Motion Schuler, seconded R. Mortenson to approve the College Credit Reimbursement Policy, included in Janet Swenson’s current 2013-14 classes.  Motion carried.  
Motion Johnson, seconded Kuznia to approve the changes to the high school student handbook as presented.  Motion carried.  Preliminary numbers were discussed regarding the referendum.  Motion Johnson, seconded C. Mortenson to certify the graduated class of 2014.  Motion carried.
Motion Schuler, seconded R. Mortenson to approve the following resolution:
     NOTICE IS HEREBY GIVEN that the period for filing Affidavits of Candidacy for the office of School Board Member of Independent School District No. 2171 shall begin on July 29, 2014 and shall close at 5:00 p.m. on August 12, 2014.
     The General Election shall be held on Tuesday, November 4, 2014.  At that election, three members will be elected to the School Board for terms of four (4) years each.
     Affidavits of Candidacy are available from the school district clerk, at the Kittson Central School District Office.  The filing fee for this office is $2.00.  A candidate for this office must be an eligible voter, must be 21 years of age or more on assuming office, must have been a resident of the school district from which the candidate seeks election for thirty (30) days before the general election, and must have no other affidavit on file for any other office at the same ensuing general election.
     The affidavits of candidacy must be filed in the office of the school district clerk and the filing fee paid prior to 5:00 p.m. on August 12, 2014.

Superintendent’s Report
The building walk around was conducted last week and a to-do list was discussed.  The next board meeting will be held June 24, 2014 at 8:00 p.m. in the Kittson Central Boardroom.  Motion C. Mortenson, seconded Langen to adjourn meeting.  Motion carried.
