Hutchinson, Minn. -  Dorothy Clare Turner, 83, Hutchinson, Minn., died Nov. 9, 2012, at Harmony River Living Center in Hutchinson.
Dorothy Clare Turner was born June 13, 1929, in Humboldt, Minn. She was the daughter of Alfred and Margaret (Peterson) Rustad. She was baptized and confirmed in her faith at the Humboldt Methodist Church. She received her education in Humboldt and Hallock, Minn. and was a graduate of the Hallock High School Class of 1947.
Oct. 10, 1948, Dorothy was united in marriage to Burton Turner at Humboldt’s Methodist Church. This marriage was blessed with four children: Leslie, Layne, Dan and James. Dorothy and Burton raised their family on a small farm site south of Humboldt, surrounded by wonderful neighbors and friends, sharing burdens and joys. Dorothy and Burton’s faith in the Lord was evident as they lived their everyday life as farmers and in Humboldt’s Methodist Church
After Burton’s death in 1977, Dorothy began working at the Hallock Hospital as a hospital aide. She loved helping others and cherished the great friends she made. After a 1989 car accident that left her disabled, Dorothy moved to Hutchinson to be near her children and grandchildren; while she grew to love her new community, she dearly loved being able to return ‘home’ to Humboldt and area for visits with family and friends.
She touched many lives with her gracious and caring ways, and her joyful laughter. She enjoyed baking delicious bread and preparing food for others. She especially enjoyed spending time with her family, grandchildren and friends, often putting together a puzzle or playing Scrabble and other board games.
Soon after learning she had bile duct/liver cancer, Dorothy became a resident of Ecumen Emmanuel in Litchfield, Minn. Sept. 8, 2012; then, to be closer to family, she moved to Harmony River Living Center in Hutchinson, Minn. Oct. 8.
She is survived by her Children: Leslie Chapman (Jerry), Bloomington, Minn., Layne (Deb) Turner, Marshall, Minn., Dan (Linda) Turner, Hutchinson, Minn.; grandchildren, Christen Chapman and Elisa Chapman, Danica (Turner) (Matt) Paurus, Ramsey (Jenny) Turner, Duffy (Emily) Turner, Joe (Carla) Turner, James Turner and Tim Turner; great grandchildren, Dylan, Chloe, Brooklyn; brother, Einar (Frances) Rustad, Atascadero, Calif.; and many other relatives and friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Alfred and Margaret Rustad; husband, Burton Turner; son, James Turner; brother Ruste (Pat) Rustad.
A Memorial Service will be held Friday, Dec. 28, 2012, 10:30 a.m., at Oak Heights Covenant Church in Hutchinson. A araveside Service will be held at Joe River Cemetery in St. Vincent Township, Kittson County, Minn. in the spring.
Arrangements were made by the Dobratz-Hantge Chapel in Hutchinson, Minn.
