KCC Boys basketball team end season 15-9 with tournament loss to Ada- Borup


On Thursday, March 9, the Kittson County Central (KCC) Bearcat boys basketball team played the Northern Freeze in the first round of the Section 8 tournament.
The Bearcats got off to a very strong start in the first half. KCC was getting stops on the defensive end and getting good possessions resulting in points on the offensive end. KCC was able to hold the Freeze offense to 10 points in the first half as KCC would lead 23 to 10 at the half.
KCC came out of the half strong and extended the lead to as much as 18 due to strong play inside. KCC played the game at their pace for the first 25 minutes of the game executing from the inside out. The Northern Freeze did not go away and they came storming back when they were able to hit some shots as they closed the gap and got the game back within two. KCC made some big shots down the stretch and made some game clinching free throws.
The Bearcats would win 53 to 46 and advance to take on Ada-Borup at the Ralph.
Scoring for the Bearcats were: Bryden Swenson 20, Cole Johnson 15, Jacob Ristad and Andrew Christenson 6 each, Trevor Coffield 4 and Spencer Billings 2.
On Saturday, March 11, the Bearcats played top seeded Ada-Borup Cougars. Early on in the game both teams had a tough time scoring as both would not score for the first five minutes due to very strong defensive play from both teams. The score would go back and forth a couple times then the Cougars would take a 6 to 4 lead. They were able to stretch it out to eight in the first half, but in the low scoring half KCC would go to halftime trailing 17 to 11.
Ada-Borup came out of the half strong and made the Bearcats play catchup. The Bearcats had a tough time stringing points together and were never able to close the gap in this one.
KCC would fall 57 to 35, and would end the season at 15-9.
Scoring were: Coffield and B. Swenson 12 each, Johnson 5, Jadyn Swenson 4 and Billings 2.
