Salvation Army kicks off Annual Kettle Campaign

Kittson County’s Salvation Army Service Unit is happy to announce that its Christmas Red Kettle Drive will begin Black Friday, Nov. 25, and continue on into Christmas.  Bell ringing will take place at major events around the county such as hockey games, basketball games, and concerts. Counter kettles will be displayed at over  twenty participating businesses throughout the region. Last year’s top counter kettles and bell ringing efforts raised over $2,800. Last year’s highest grossing kettles were located at Karlstad Korner and the Kennedy VFW.
The local Salvation Army provides home utility assistance to the needy, medical transportation, and clothing, temporary food and shelter. Assistance is normally devoted to meeting  one-time needs in order  to provide “a hand up” as opposed to a handout.
To volunteer for bell-ringing call 843-3686 during weekdays. Businesses may call the same number to request placement of a counter collection kettle. Individuals and groups (such as families, church groups, service groups, etc.) can volunteer to ring bells. If you know of people in need, contact 843-3686 during the day to refer them for possible assistance.
The local unit of the Salvation Army also conducts a Christmas letter drive during this time. Donors might receive solicitations from other Salvation Army offices, such as the main Minnesota office in Roseville. Kittson County solicitations always come from the local unit, and funds received by our local Salvation Army unit are credited towards Kittson County. The majority of funds raised by the local Salvation Army unit come from the letter drive.
