No traditional services are organized for Memorial Day
By Margie Holmgren
This coming weekend is known for its ceremonies planned to honor those who sacrificed their lives in service to their country. But for the first time in many, many years there will be no formal services in any of our area communities
Lancaster American Legion Post, along with their fellow Legion members in Hallock and Lake Bronson, will not be holding a traditional public program. The groups are still encouraging everyone to take the day to pay respect and honor the fallen by visiting the graves and memorials of those who are no longer with us.
Other ways to honor the day include flying the flag at half-staff until noon, pausing at 3 p.m. for the National Moment of Remembrance and thanking those who have served by sending a note or calling.
Each year in Lancaster the American Legion Auxiliary hold a luncheon as their only fundraiser for the entire year. Since this will not be taking place, the group is asking for donations to be mailed to Lancaster Legion Auxiliary, c/o Judy Remer, PO Box 68, Lancaster, MN 56735.
The Lancaster Olaf A Bergquist Post 214 will hold a ceremony Monday, May 25, noon, at the Lancaster Cemetery. Social distancing and other protocol will be followed.
Please take a moment this Memorial Day to remember those who paid the ultimate sacrifice in service to their country.
