KCC falls at home to Goodridge/Grygla

By Asst. Coach Mark Bernstrom
Here we are with two weeks down and four to go in this shortened season.  This past Friday, the Bearcats hosted Goodridge/ Grygla in Lancaster. This game always holds a bit more meaning as the “Golden Helmet” is on the line for the winner of the game.  Since the trophy has been put into play the Bearcats have been the keeper of the helmet.  To keep it another year was put to the test this game.
G/G had size and experience on their side and it showed throughout the game. They were able to take their size and use it against the Bearcat defense to keep the sticks moving down the field. They were able to score once in every quarter on Friday by putting together long drives to use up the clock and control the field. This was the battle that the Bearcats had to fight through. They just could not find the big play to get off the field defensively.
Offensively the Bearcats could not find consistent rhythm within their offense to sustain a long drive.  That is until the fourth quarter when Adam Gustafson ran the ball in for their first and only score of the game. Isaac Folland capped off the score with a successful extra point kick.  When the dust settled after a long, hard fought game, G/G came out on top over the Bearcats 26-7, and walked away with the “Golden Helmet.”
The Bearcats are looking ahead to their next opponent, as they take on Warren in Hallock on Friday night.  After two hard fought games the young Bearcat group is looking forward to keep improving and bring home a win.
