Although the pandemic has been a detriment in many cases, it has provided at least one benefit for area families.
The federal Summer Food Service Program has allowed Lancaster School and Tri-County School in Karlstad to provide meals at no cost to any child ages 2 to 18 this summer. All schools have operated under this program since March of 2020 and provided the same meals last summer.
It has not only been a respite for kids to get out and pick up food for themselves, but also a relief for parents to worry less about nutritious meals over summer break. The program has proved popular with more than 100 meals going out a day in each community.
