KCC wins Homecoming game against WEM, improves to 4-1
By Mark Bernstom, assistant coach
At the home game on Friday, Oct. 1 for the Bearcats, under the lights in Hallock, KCC welcomed Win-E-Mac who came in with a 3-1 record, and looked to stop KCC’s winning streak. With it being Homecoming week there are a lot of activities going on, but the Bearcats didn’t let that take away their focus.
In the first quarter, KCC came out fast marching down the field with their first possession of the game, and scoring with a 2-yard run by Braden Faken. The extra point was no good, but KCC was off to a good start. After holding up WEM on their drive, KCC started to drive again and finished it off with a 25-yard run by Chisum Schmiedeberg for the score. A successful 2-point run by Ozzie Meyer-Rice gave KCC a 14-0 lead after the first quarter.
With the secnd quarter underway, WEM was able to find the end zone by a 1-yard run, but failed on their 2-point conversion, to cut into the lead 14-6. The Bearcats were able to find pay dirt two more times before halftime. It started with an 18-yard run by Schmiedeberg and a successful extra point kick by Isaac Folland. The next score came by a 1-yard run by Meyer-Rice to give the Bearcats a 27-6 lead going into halftime.
Win-E-Mac was able to score first in the third quarter, but after a failed 2-point KCC still held a 27-12 lead. Meyer-Rice was able to respond later in the quarter with a 13-yard touchdown run, and a successful extra point kick by Folland extended the lead 34-12. The JV started to sub into the game and started to get some valuable game reps. In the fourth quarter, Meyer-Rice was able to break free again with a 41-yard touchdown run to cap off the scoring for the night. The game came to a close, with a 40-12 victory over visiting Win-E-Mac.
This was a complete game by the Bearcats. The defense played hard all game and didn’t let WEM get back into the game. The offense kept turning out yards all game long and was able to find the end zone time after time. This was one of the better performances the Bearcats have put together this year. With the win they improve to 4-1. This Friday, Oct. 8 they travel down to Warren for a 5 p.m. game against the WAO Ponies.
