Bearcats basketball loses opening games
By Trent Jerome, coach
To start the 2021-2022 season, the KCC boys basketball team traveled to East Grand Forks on Thursday, Dec. 2 to take on the Green Wave.
The Bearcats jumped off to a slow start and were unable to recover from the deficit. Kaden Vig was the leading scorer for the Bearcats and was instrumental on the offensive side of the ball.
In the end, KCC fell to the Green Wave, 88-45.
In the following week, the Bearcats had their first conference matchup on Tuesday, Dec. 7 against the Northern Freeze. The Bearcats zoomed out to an early lead in the contest but the Freeze fought back to make it a back and forth battle for most of the first half.
The Freeze began to pull away from KCC before halftime and used that momentum to expand the lead in the second half.
Chisum Schmiedeberg, Braden Faken and Kaden Vig all scored in the double figures, but it was not enough to take down the opponent. The Northern Freeze beat the Bearcats 60-43. KCC next plays at Roseau on Tuesday, Dec. 14 and then travels to Sacred Heart on Friday, Dec. 17 for another inner conference matchup.
