Dennis ‘Denny’ Eckholm, 87

Dennis “Denny” Leroy Ekholm, 87, of Monticello, Minn., passed away at St. Benedict’s Senior Community of Monticello on Friday, Feb. 18, 2022.
Dennis was born on Feb. 4, 1935, on the family farm, Caribou Township, Kittson County, Minn., to Edward and Blenda (Nelsen) Ekholm. He grew up and worked on the farm with his family. He served in the U.S. Army for two years. He lived and worked as a cement mason (Local #557) in the Twin Cities and Monticello/Big Lake area. He worked on multiple buildings, Interstate 94 and the Sherco Power Plant in Becker, Minn.
Dennis was united in marriage to Iola Swan on Nov. 24, 1973. They spent their time together fishing, camping and laughing. He enjoyed hunting with family and friends. His hobbies were woodworking, gardening and planting trees.
He is survived by: his step-daughter, Julie (David) Lindquist; step-granddaughters, Melissa Lindquist (Michael Gold), and Kristina Lindquist; sisters-in-law, Mary Lou Psyk and Darlene Swan; brother-in-law, Earl Swan; 13 nieces, seven nephews; and many relatives, friends and neighbors.
He was preceded in death by: his parents, Edward and Blenda; his wife, Iola; brothers, Lawrence and Alton Ekholm; nephews, Jesse Swan, Rick Snarr and Thomas and Steven Ekholm.
The family would like to thank his medical and care team at Allina Health, the St. Cloud V.A. and St. Benedict’s for their excellent care.
Funeral services for Dennis will be held on Thursday, Feb. 24, 2022, at 7 p.m., with visitation at 6 p.m. at the Peterson-Grimsmo Funeral Chapel, 250 E. Broadway, Monticello. www.petersongrimsmo chapel.com.
