Dorothy Ann Jacobson, 93
Dorothy Ann Jacobson, 93, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, Dec. 21, 2022.
Dorothy was born Nov. 28, 1929, in Caribou, Minn. to her parents, James and Alma McKibbin. Dorothy grew up in Caribou along with her four sisters and lived upstairs above the grocery store that her parents owned. Dorothy and her sisters grew up very close and shared the chores in the house as well as at the store.
When Dorothy was a young woman, she met the love of her life, Vernon Jacobson, from Hallock, Minn. They got married Nov. 30, 1947. It was while living in Minnesota they started their family, first Rick then Jim.
Times were tough and Vern heard there was work in the West. So in 1951, they decided to move west and ended up in Ephrata, Wa. There they worked and raised their sons and lived for over 30 years. Family visits were numerous over the years there and Dorothy enjoyed every one of them. While living in Ephrata they became grandparents. Dorothy loved being not only a mom but a grandma too. Everyone loved when Dorothy cooked because everything she cooked was delicious, especially her homemade rolls.
In 1983, Vern and Dorothy moved to Hawk Creek, just outside Davenport, Wa. They built a house on the property they purchased with a garage and a wraparound deck. The view of the field and the hill across from the flowing creek below gave you a closeness of nature watching the deer all year long. They had a large garden so in the summer and fall, fresh veggies were plentiful. This home too had numerous family get togethers as well and visits never seemed long enough.
In 1996, Vern and Dorothy moved to Suncrest in Nine Mile Falls, Wa., to be closer to Jim and Rick and closer to medical facilities. The area has a feel of country, but still close to Spokane, Wa. Dorothy lost the love of her life, Vern in 2009.
She is survived by: her sons, Rick Jacobson and James Jacobson (Kerry); Five grandchildren, Deanna Reece (John), Jason Jacobson, Kristen Mullins (Josh), Chris Jaobson (Amy), Jimmy Jacobson (Allie); Six great-grandchildren and she knew of one coming in 2023; numerous nieces and nephews, and also many friends’ children who called her mom or grandma because she was so great and loving to all.
Dorothy is preceded in death by: Vern; her sisters, Alvina Mattson, Blanche Fertig , Ida Oaks and Patsy Gragert.
Dorothy will join Vern after cremation in a Niche at Riverside Memorial Cemetery Mausoleum in Spokane. A family and friends gathering will be assembled at that time.
