Darrell Clifford Peterson, 75
Darrell Clifford Peterson, 75, of Lancaster, Minn., passed away, surrounded by family at Essentia Health in Fargo, N.D., on Friday, Feb. 10, 2023.
Darrell was born Oct. 18, 1947, at Hallock, Minn., to Clifford and Amy (Erickson) Peterson. He grew up in rural Lancaster on the Peterson farm. Darrell enjoyed his youth doing fun things like hunting and fishing, and perfected these hobbies as he grew older.
He enjoyed his time at Lake of the Woods during every season. He had a recipe for a walleye that couldn’t be beat.
He had a gift for teaching two more generations of hunters about conservation and safety. He made so many memories for his family to enjoy for years to come. He served in the U.S. Army before he married the love of his life, Pat, on Oct. 19, 1972, and started his farming career. He retired from farming in 2001, but it never really left his heart. He could still be seen in a tractor on many occasions.
Darrell is survived by: his wife, Pat Peterson; daughters, Pamela Dorion, and Penny Schwab (Larry); son, CJ Peterson (Courtney Gratzek); grandchildren, Sydney and Thomas Dorion, Madisyn and Mason Peterson, Zac and Brooke Schwab, Camille and Gunnar Gratzek, and Griffin Peterson; great-grandchildren, LillySophia and Apollo Barrett; sister, Ardell Larson; and brother, Neil Peterson.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Clifford and Amy Peterson.
A service was held Saturday, Feb. 18 at 11 a.m. at the Sion Lutheran Church in Lancaster. Rev. Andy Graves, presiding; Tim Peterson, eulogy; Dianne Rice, organist and Don Thorlacius, soloist. Honorary pall bearers were Darrell’s grandchildren. Military honors will be accorded by the Lancaster American Legion and the Minnesota National Guard.
