Franklin Carlson, 88

Franklin Carlson, 88, entered Jesus’ loving arms on March 23, 2023.
Leonard Franklin Carlson was born on May 24, 1934, in Kittson County Minn., the ninth child of Ellen and Andrew Carlson. Franklin was baptized at Maria Lutheran Church, Kennedy, Minn. He graduated from Kennedy High School in 1952. He joined the Air Force and served in England and Texas.
Franklin returned to the land he loved – Kittson County. On March 12, 1977, he married Marlys Danielson at Minneapolis, Minn. They enjoyed life together until Marlys died on Feb. 19, 2015. It’s worth noting they met when Marlys placed a personal ad in the North Star News inviting a man with similar interests from Kittson County to meet. His mother noticed the ad and suggested he contact her. Although a city girl, Marlys loved the Red River Valley.
Franklin did not have children but was an uncle to 22 Carlson grandchildren. He was a kind and gentle soul and always a lot of fun to be around. Before he married Marlys, he accompanied Grandma Ellen to many family events and other places she wanted to go. He led a life committed to service. Franklin accepted Jesus Christ in his heart and life. He remained faithful to his calling and awaited heaven with great anticipation. He had a quiet but active sense of humor and was loved by his family and a host of friends.
In his work life he served the U.S. Air Force on ABM missile sites in the 1960s, later for American Crystal Sugar Company and Kittson County farmers. He worked for Marilyn and James Lindahl on their farm for 40 years and was like one of the family.
He is survived by his sister-in-law, Eunice Carlson and brother-in-law Dean Danielson; 22 nieces and nephews, Nordin cousins and Danielson relatives.
He was preceded in death by his wife Marlys Joy; his parents, Ellen and Andrew; and siblings, Donald (Bernice) Carlson, Clarence (Velma), Helaine (Luverne) Ingeman, Allen (Eunice) Carlson, Phyllis Carlson, Clifford (Lek) Carlson, Barbara Carlson, and James Carlson; his father in-law, Stanley and mother-in-law, Esther Danielson; brothers-in-law, Woody Danielson (Eileen), Stanford Danielson, Roland Danielson (Shirley); and sister-in-law, Lois Mardel and their children.
A Celebration of Life will be held on Monday, April 10 at 2 p.m. in the Lancaster Covenant Church with pastor and cousin Galen Nordin officiating. Visitation will be held at the church for one hour prior to the service. Burial will be held in the Kennedy City Cemetery at a later date. The service will be lived streamed from the Lancaster Covenant Church. Special music provided by Faye Potrament and Galen and Julie Nordin; Janelle Hostrup, organist. Casket bearers will be David Lindahl, Craig Carlson, Clare Carlson, Joe Welebski, Andrew Karlson and Raphael Einberger.
