Kittson Central Board Meeting
March 29th, 2023
The Board of Education of #2171 met in regular session at 8:00 p.m. in the Kittson Central boardroom. Members present were Eric Ristad, Crisa Mortenson, Mike Olsonawski, Amanda Pinnock, Teal Plaine, Matt Kuznia and Mark Johnson. Also present were Superintendent Jaszczak, Renee Wahl, Mark Bernstrom, Brandon Ristad, Aidra Johnson, Anna Jauhola and Stephanie Hanson.
The meeting was called to order by Ristad The agenda was approved by Mortenson second by Olsonawski. Motion carried. Minutes from February 22nd, 2023 were presented. Motion to accept minutes by Johnson, second by Kuznia. Motion carried. The bills, limited due to Amanda Younggren being on maternity leave, having been audited and found correct were ordered to be paid. Post payment bills (hand payables) were approved for $35,287.57. Prepayment bills of $91,040.67.
A motion to approve the bills as presented by Olsonawski, seconded by Mortenson Motion carried.
Brandon Ristad and Aidra Johnson presented the itinerary for the senior class trip as went through the daily plan. Motion to approve the itinerary by Kuznia, second by Olsonawski. Motion carried.
Discussion was had on how the future senior class trips may look with the costs increasing and what it takes for funds to keep the trip looking the same as previous years. The scope of the trip will need to be adjusted according to the funds available.
A recommendation to approve the naming of Catie Jerome as the Head Track Coach and approve the hiring of Andi Strege as the Assistant Track Coach was presented. Motion to approve Mortenson, second Pinnock. Motion carried.
A recommendation to hire Mr. Andrew Danielson as the new band teacher for the upcoming 2023-24 school year was presented. He is currently student teaching in Moorhead. Motion to approve Plaine, second Olsonawski. Motion carried.
A recommendation to approve the purchase of a 71 passenger school bus from North Central Bus and Equipment in the amount of $121,514.15 was presented. The purchase would be part of FY24. Motion to approve Mortenson, second Olsonawski. Motion carried.
Superintendent Jaszczak talked about a now artificial intelligence app called ChatGPT and some trainings that he has lined up for the teaching staff starting next week. A grad student from NDSU will be providing instruction for a total of 4 hours. The legislature is working on numerous bills. The free student lunch bill passed which will take effect in the fall. The Dallas Brass concert went very well. Lighter attendance than he’d hoped for, but still a great show. There is a sports coop meeting on April 4th, 2023. There will have to be a facilities walk through meeting shortly and he will send out an email to pick a good time for that.
