KCC Bearcats beat West Marshall in baseball action
Kittson County Central defeated West Marshall 4-3 on Monday, May 8.
West Marshall got on the board in the first inning when Aiden Anderson doubled on the first pitch of the at bat, scoring Will McGlynn. Anderson also scored later in the inning to secure a 2-0 lead for the Fusion.
The Bearcats evened things up at 2 in the bottom of the first inning on runs by Ethan Hanson and Chisum Schmiedeberg, each of whom walked in the inning. KCC went up for good in the fourth when Hanson and Schmiedeberg singled and came around to score again.
The Fusion added a run in the fifth inning on a Jackson Woinarowicz single, cutting the Bearcat lead to 4-3. But with good pitching and great defense, highlighted by a spectacular Brock Scalese catch in leftfield, the Bearcats were able to hold on for the win.
Eli Swanson got the win for Kittson County Central. He righty allowed 1 hit and 1 run over 3 innings, striking out 2. Braden Faken got the save, throwing 2 and a third innings in relief out of the bullpen. Faken recorded the last 7 outs on only 24 pitches.
Derek Moehrle took the loss for West Marshall. Moehrle surrendered 4 runs on 3 hits over 6 innings, striking out 8.
