May 24th, 2023

The Board of Education of #2171 met in regular session at 8:00 p.m. in the Kittson Central boardroom. Members present were Eric Ristad, Crisa Mortenson, Mike Olsonawski, Amanda Pinnock, Teal Plaine, Matt Kuznia and Mark Johnson. Also present were Superintendent Jaszczak, Jami Carr, Tina Turn, Dana Lofstrom, Anna Jauhola and Stephanie Hanson. Minutes from April 26th, 2023 were presented. Motion to accept minutes by Mortenson, second by Plaine. Motion carried. The bills having been audited and found correct were ordered to be paid. Post payment bills (hand payables) were approved for $659.00. Prepayment bills of $53,368.644. For the months of January through April Payroll Electronic Fund Transfers in the amount of $1,126,944.31, Payroll Checks in the amount of $169,445.35. Donations of $5,339.30. Motion to approve by Johnson, second by Mortenson. Motion carried.
The facility committee completed a walk-through of the buildings and grounds.
Mrs. Carr talked about the spring sports coming to an end and subsection tournaments being held. Meetings are being held for schedules for next year’s football with the resectioning.
Brandon Ristad talked about the senior trip and how much fun they had. He talked about some of the issues with not having their own transportation, and only using public transportation. They enjoyed all the activities on their itinerary.
A recommendation to approve the resignation of Mark Bernstrom as the high school physical education teacher was presented. He will be the new AD in Lancaster. Motion to approve Olsonawski, second Plaine. Motion carried.
A recommendation to approve the resignation of elementary teacher Peighton Worlie was presented. She took a job closer to her hometown. Motion to approve Plaine, second Pinnock. Motion carried.
A recommendation to approve hiring Tom Vig as the junior varsity football coach was presented. Motion to approve Olsonawski, second Mortenson. Motion carried.
A recommendation to approve the hiring of Britney Christinson for an Elementary teaching position. Motion to approve Plaine, second Pinnock. Motion carried.
A recommendation to approve the girls hockey cooperative agreement with Thief River Falls, Red Lake Falls, Warren-Alverado-Oslo, and Marshall Country Central was presented. Motion to approve Plaine, second Pinnock with Johnson abstaining.
A recommendation to approve the membership in the Minnesota State High School League was presented. Motion to approve by Mortenson, second by Kuznia. Motion carried.
A recommendation to approve the certification of teh graduation class of 2023 as presented. Motion to approve by Olsonawski, second by Plaine. Motion carried.
Superintendent Jaszczak talked about all the legislature changes in the new bill that will take most of the summer to sort through. There was discussion about cheerleading, which he said he would get more information on for the next meeting. There are several summer activities with camps and the reunion coming up along with all the cleaning the summer help takes care of throughout the building. We will be sharing the band teacher with Lancaster, as he will go for two hours at the end of the day to the Lancaster School.
Next meeting is June 28th, 2023 at 8:00 p.m.
