Kittson Central Board Meeting
August 23rd, 2023
The Board of Education of #2171 met in regular session at 8:00 p.m. in the Kittson Central boardroom. Members present were Eric Ristad, Crisa Mortenson, Mike Olsonawski, Amanda Pinnock, Teal Plaine, and Mark Johnson. Also present were Superintendent Jaszczak, Jami Carr, Janet Swenson, Sonja Klein, Margie Holmgren and Stephanie Hanson. Ristad called the meeting to order. Minutes from July 26th, 2023 were presented. Motion to accept minutes by Mortenson, second by Olsonawski. Motion carried. The bills having been audited and found correct were ordered to be paid. Post payment bills (hand payables) were approved for $292.50. Prepayment bills of $96,473.72 Activity Fund Balance of $93,212.52. Payroll Electronic Fund Transfers in the amount of $229,594.79, Payroll Checks in the amount of $85,142.03.

The NWRIC held their meeting at the beginning of August. They are working on workshops for the staff. They have completed their hiring for the school year and are fully staffed at this time.
Mrs. Carr talked about the fall sports, with good numbers for both volleyball and football. The cheer team did not have enough interest to support having a squad this year.
The Truth and Taxation Meeting date will be December 20th, 2023 at 8pm along with the normal monthly board meeting. Motion to approve this date Mortenson, second Pinnock. Motion carried.
A recommendation to hire Jessica Flores as a paraprofessional was presented. Motion to approve Plaine, second Olsonawski. Motion carried.
A recommendation to approve Dave Thompson, Matt Casper and Evan Bernstrom as the elementary flag football coaches as presented. Motion to approve Olsonawski, second Pinnock. Motion carried.
A recommendation to approve the E-Learning Plan as presented pending negotiations with the teachers. Motion to approve Mortenson, second Plaine. Motion carried.
A recommendation to approve the cross border tuition agreement with North Border Schools. Motion to approve Pinnock, second Mortenson. Motion carried.
A recommendation to accept the resignation of junior high boys basketball coach Bob Jaszczak was presented. Motion to approve Johnson, second Mortenson. Motion carried.
A recommendation to approve the resignation of Michelle Rosenau. She decided she didn’t think it was a good fit for her as the Business Manager Administrative Assistant. Motion to approve Pinnock, second Plaine. Motion carried.
Superintendent Jaszczak talked about everything being in place for the start of the school year. All teachers and paraprofessional positions are full. Tim Denney will be here on Tuesday to talk with the staff about mental health. There are a few additional hours of training for the paraprofessionals and CPR training with Naomi Larson also on Tuesday. There has been some last minute painting in the building this last week to get ready for the school year. The new furniture has been added to some of the rooms with some of the old stuff being disposed of that was in poor condition. We are looking at around 238 students this year which is 6 more than last year. Things are still being ironed out with the band teacher sharing with Lancaster, but so far the cooperation has been positive. The After School Program form is on the website and available for signup. Open house is Wednesday, August 30th from 4-6pm.
