KCC boys take tough losses at home and on the road

By Trent Jerome, coach

KCC 59 – SH 88
The week opened with a home game against the Sacred Heart Eagles on Monday, Dec. 11. The Bearcats, led by Brody Scalese, Kellen Johnson and Ty Vig, quickly established a lead with a series of rapid baskets. However, the Eagles answered back, using their strong defense to transition into effective offensive plays. This shift in momentum allowed the Eagles to build their own lead.
By the midpoint of the first half, Sacred Heart was ahead 23-20. The Eagles capitalized on turnovers, extending their lead to 47-32 by halftime.
In the second half, despite early points from KCC, including a three from Kellen Johnson and an inside score by Ty Vig, the Eagles maintained control. Turnovers continued to plague the Bearcats, contributing to their 88-59 defeat.
Scoring: Ty Vig, 28, Kellen Johnson 10, Eli Peterson 6, Dylon Warnke 6, Jaydon Nordin 3, Ashton Knutson 2, Brody Scalese 2.

KCC 62 – Roseau 73
The Bearcats faced the Roseau Rams on Tuesday, Dec. 12. The game commenced with both teams trading points, but Roseau’s 3-2 zone defense soon caused issues for KCC.
Turnovers became a recurring problem, giving the Rams several scoring opportunities. Despite this, KCC managed to stay close, largely due to Brody Scalese’s effective outside shooting. The first half ended with Roseau ahead 34-27.
The second half mirrored the first, with KCC trying to close the gap but struggling against Roseau’s defense. The game ended in a 73-62 victory for the Rams.
Scoring: Brody Scalese 28, Kellen Johnson 11, Ty Vig 9, Eli Peterson 4, Brock Scalese 4, Jaydon Nordin 3, Dylon Warnke 3.

KCC 57 – EGF 91
The third game of the week saw the Bearcats on the road against the East Grand Forks Green Wave on Friday, Dec. 15.
EGF took an early lead, but KCC quickly countered, including a three-pointer from Kellen Johnson and an inside finish from Ty Vig. The first half was tightly contested, but EGF pulled ahead toward the end, leading 32-23 at halftime.
In the second half, EGF’s increased defensive pressure led to further challenges for the Bearcats creating turnovers, along with EGF extending their lead with accurate three-point shooting.
The game concluded with a 91-57 win for the Green Wave.
Scoring: Ty Vig 18, Brody Scalese 14, Kellen Johnson 13, Eli Peterson 6, Dylon Warnke 6.

Despite the tough week, the team remains focused and determined to improve in their upcoming games.
