The Board of Education of #2171 met in regular session at 8:00 p.m. in the Kittson Central boardroom. Members present were Eric Ristad, Crisa Mortenson, Mike Olsonawski, Amanda Pinnock, Teal Plaine, Matta Kuznia and Mark Johnson. Also present were Superintendent Jaszczak, Jami Carr, Becky Johnson, Kayla Hanson, Margie Holmgren, Ken Urbaniak and Stephanie Hanson. Ristad called the meeting to order. The agenda was approved by Olsonawski second by Mortenson. Motion carried. Minutes from November 22nd, 2023 were presented. Motion to accept minutes by Johnson, second by Kuznia. Motion carried. The bills having been audited and found correct were ordered to be paid. Post payment bills (hand payables) were approved for $7,539.57. Prepayment bills of $454,568.65 Activity Fund Balance of $106,898.25. Payroll Electronic Fund Transfers/misc. Wires in the amount of $313,355.14, Payroll Checks in the amount of $54,150.18

Motion to approve the bills as presented by Mortenson, second Pinnock. Motion carried.
Ken Urbaniak was present. He asked about the combined polling precincts and having mail in ballots for the residents of Kennedy for special elections. Superintendent Jaszczak was going to look at it, as the 2024 year was already set.
The sports coop had a meeting and talked about the need for another assistant football coach and the end of the fall seasons.
The negotiation committee met with the teachers and had a conversation. The representatives were going back to the teachers union group with items discussed.
Mrs. Carr talked about all the winter concerts being completed with great attendance for all performances and the fundraiser dessert bars were also well attended. Especially the elementary one. Junior high robotics has qualified for state at this point in the season. The senior high team has a couple more competitions.. One act play competition is set for the end of January. The cast is rather small but it’s going well. She has been visiting rooms to manage some of the behaviors which seems to be helping. They will be having more frequent SAT meetings to discuss student needs.
Ken Urbaniak was present for the Truth and Taxation Public Hearing. The Revised Budget of Revenue for FY23 was approved

Motion to approve the Revised Budget FY24 Johnson, second Mortenson. Motion carried.
A recommendation to approve the final property tax levy as presented. Motion to approve Johnson, second Olsonawski. Motion carried.
A recommendation to approve the first reading of the proposed changes to the cell phone policy was present. Motion to approve with Johnson opposed.
A recommendation to approve the accepting the resignation of Catie Jerome as the head track coach was presented. Motion to approve Mortenson, second Plaine. Motion carried.
Superintendent Jaszczak talked about having interviews with in-house staff for the Title I position. Sonja Klein was offered the position and will move into that role next year following Joy Beth Olson’s retirement. The new Read Act will be implemented next year as well. Christmas break is approaching and there have been a few illnesses in the building. Staff have been cleaning surfaces to help with the spread. Hopefully the break will help to clear this up. He and Nicole Thompson visit once a month to discuss various items and that has been helpful.
Next meeting is January 24th, 2024 at 8:00 p.m.
