KCC hockey drops games to Wadena-Deer Creek, Park Rapids

The KCC Bearcat hockey team headed to Wadena-Deer Creek and Park Rapids this weekend to play in the last weekend double-header of the regular season. With the last regular season game being in Bagley on Tuesday, Feb. 13th, the Bearcats will battle for one last win before playoffs.
KCC 1 – W-DC 6
Kicking off the weekend in Wadena on Friday, Feb. 9, Dana Brown scored on a breakaway opportunity in the start of the first period to make it a 1-0 KCC lead. A few minutes later, KCC’s Gus Gunnarson was called for a hooking penalty ending in W-DC’s Cooper Ness scoring the tying power play goal. After Wadena-Deer Creek made it a 2-1 game to start the second period, the Bearcats broke down and let up 4 more unanswered goals ending the game with a Bearcat loss of 6-1.
1st Period — Scoring: KCC – Brown Goal (even strength) 1:31; WDC – Ness Goal (power play) (Ferdon, Mithun) 3:05; WDC – Krell Goal (short handed) (Davis) 13:55. Penalties: Gunnarson, KCC (Hooking, Minor, 2.0 min) 1:43; Pettit, WDC (Interference, Minor, 2.0 min) 13:16. Goalie Changes: None.
2nd Period — Scoring: WDC – Rinio Goal (even strength) (Wright, Pettit) 3:58; WDC – Benson Goal (even strength) (Rinio, Lucht) 5:33; WDC – Wright Goal (even strength) (Rinio, Lucht) 6:32. Penalties: Pettit, WDC (Tripping, Minor, 2.0 min) 16:13. Goalie Changes: None.
3rd Period — Scoring: WDC – Mithun Goal (even strength) (Wright) 13:33. Penalties: Johnson, KCC (Roughing, Minor, 2.0 min) 11:13. Goalie Changes: None.

KCC 2 – PR 6
After the tough loss in Wadena, KCC headed to Park Rapids on Saturday, Feb. 10 to try and battle for their third win. Both teams came out strong in the first period making it a hard fought period. The Panthers scored halfway through, but KCC’s Morgan Muir answered back with an even strength goal to make it a 1-1 game. Shortly after, the Panthers scored again to make it 2-1 at the end of the first period.
To start the second period, Park Rapids’ Jeron Pinoniemi scored 2 back-to-back goals completing his hat trick and making it 4-1. KCC’s Gavin Johnson scored a power play goal to make it 4-2 giving the Bearcats some hope of battling back. Due to not being able to stop Panthers’ forward Pinoniemi, he was able to score 5 of the 6 of the Panthers’ goals to end the game at 6-2.

3rd Period — Scoring: PRAHS – Henry Goal (even strength) (Hoscheid) 10:19; PRAHS – Pinoniemi Goal (short handed) 14:23. Penalties: Hanson, PRAHS (Interference, Minor, 2.0 min) 12:54; Henry, PRAHS (Tripping, Minor, 2.0 min) 15:27. Goalie Changes: None.

KCC Senior forward MOrgan Muir scored for the Bearcats during their 2-6 loss to Park Rapids. Morgan’s goal came in the first period with an assist from Joe Albrecht. Gavin Johnson scored a Bearcat goal in the 2nd period.
