Bearcats boys defeat Pirates and now head into playoffs

By Trent Jerome, coach
In a thrilling conclusion to the regular season, the Kittson County Central Bearcats boys demonstrated skill, tenacity and teamwork in a decisive victory over the AA Crookston Pirates on Friday, March 1.
The game kicked off at a fast pace, with both teams quickly finding the net, setting the stage for an action-packed matchup. KCC used their big man, Ty Vig, early where he was dominant inside and from beyond the three-point arc. However, Crookston kept pace with multiple three-pointers of their own. Neither team could create space from the other as each offense was finding ways to score. KCC led at the half 40-37.
Coming out of the break, Crookston quickly tied the game, but KCC didn’t waste any time putting themselves back in front. The game’s turning point came when the game was tied at 45-45. The Bearcats’ excellent ball movement led to a crucial 18-5 run, with several Bearcats contributing to the scoreboard. Crookston attempted to rally, but the Bearcats responded with another strong 12-0 run, sealing the win. The Bearcats defeated the Pirates 88-64.

Scoring: Ty Vig 34, Brody Scalese 12, Eli Peterson 12, Kellen Johnson 12, Brock Scalese 12, Jaydon Nordin 4, Dylon Warnke 2.

Special recognition goes to junior Ty Vig for earning an All-Conference Award and to freshman Kellen Johnson for receiving an All-Conference Honorable Mention. Their strong performances have been key to our success this season.
Now, KCC’s focus shifts to the playoffs, started with a home game against BGMR on Monday, March 4 in Lancaster. We’re calling on all Bearcats fans to come out, wear your team colors and support the boys as the Bearcats embark on their playoff journey.
