February 28th 2024

The Board of Education of #2171 met in regular session at 8:00 p.m. in the Kittson Central boardroom. Members present were Eric Ristad, Crisa Mortenson, Mike Olsonawski, Amanda Pinnock, Teal Plaine, Matt Kuznia and Mark Johnson. Also present were Superintendent Jaszczak, Jami Carr, Stacie Johnson, Britney Sugden, Anna Jauhola and Stephanie Hanson. The meeting was called to order by Ristad. A motion to approve the agenda as presented by Olsonawski, second Plaine. Motion carried. Minutes from January 24th, 2024 were presented. Motion to accept minutes by Johnson, second by Mortenson. Motion carried. The bills having been audited and found correct were ordered to be paid. Post payment bills (hand payables) were approved for $19,556.89. Prepayment bills of $70,603.29, Activity Fund Balance of $114,615.50. Payroll Electronic Fund Transfers/misc. Wires in the amount of $255,087.68, Payroll Checks in the amount of $442.18.

Motion to approve the bills as presented by Mortenson, second Pinnock. Motion carried.
There was a coach from Park Rapids that approached Mark Johnson at a gas station in Warroad after a basketball game and expressed how impressed he was with Kittson County Central’s hockey coach and the way he handled himself during the game the previous week.
Mrs. Carr talked about the winter sports seasons wrapping up with hockey already completed. Girls basketball playoffs start this week and boys basketball start next week. There were two career fairs two weeks ago, with 16 presenters having graduated from here. Everything went extremely well. Delta Dental held a clinic last Friday with a very good turn out of students with a lot of positive feedback. The Junior Robotics team leaves for state Friday and the Knowledge Bowl team qualified for regions this week with competition on March 12th. Senior trip dates are set for April 2-9.
A recommendation to approve the 2024-2025 School Calendar as presented. Motion to approve Mortenson, second Olsonawski. Motion carried.
A recommendation to approve the KCEA contract as presented. Motion to approve Plaine, second Kuznia. Motion carried.
A recommendation to approve the resignation of paraprofessional Kelly Dorn. They are moving closer to family. Motion to approve Mortenson, second Olsonawski. Motion carried.
A recommendation to hire Special Education Teacher, Mrs. Tasha Dahl, for the upcoming school year. Motion to approve Mortenson, second Plaine. Motion carried.
A recommendation to hire Mr. Nick Johnson as the elementary physical education teacher beginning at the start of 24-25 school year. Motion to approve Kuznia, second Kuznia. Motion carried with Johnson abstaining.
Superintendent Jaszczcak talked about having built in an extra day to the current school year schedule and if there were not more than 3 snow days by March 22nd, there would be no school on May 3rd. He would utilize this day for CPI training for staff that haven’t had it. Still remains to be seen with another storm moving in later this weekend. He thanked the board for allowing him to participate in the AASA group over the last two years. He will be wrapping this up in May and has found it to be very informational. There will be some semi final basketball games on Wednesday this spring due to conflicts with election dates on Tuesdays and Thursdays.
Next meeting is March 25th, 2024 at 8:00 p.m.
