Ordinance No. 67 City of Kennedy
Ordinance No. 67
AN ORDINANCE SEPARATING THE OFFICE OF CITY CLERK AND CITY TREASURER FOR THE CITY OF KENNEDY
The City Council of the City of Kennedy hereby ordains:
Section 1. That prior to 1967, the Office of Village Treasurer was separate from the office of Village Clerk. According to the historic records currently available, in 1967 an attempt was made by the Village Council to combine the office of Village Treasurer and Village Clerk, creating the office of Clerk-Treasurer. However, no official records can be found confirming this act, and only unsigned copies can be located of the same.
Section 2. It is prudent and has been recommended that the City of Kennedy separate the offices of City Clerk and City Treasurer if those offices are not already currently separate.
Section 3. That if office City Clerk-Treasurer exits, it is hereby abolished effective midnight on December 31, 2018.
Section 4. That if the office of City Clerk and the office of City Treasurer does not currently exist, then said offices shall be officially created.
Section 5. This Ordinance becomes effective as of 12:01 a.m., January 1, 2019, and thereafter.
Section 6. At its first regular meeting each calendar year, the City Council for the City of Kennedy shall select a person or entity to serve as City Treasurer and a separate person or entity to serve as City Clerk. The City Clerk and the City Treasurer shall serve at the pleasure of the City Council and their terms shall last and continue in effect until and unless they should die, resign or a successor should be named.
Passed by the City Council on this 10th day of December, 2018.
