Commission approves resolution for tax forfeited properties, purchases blinds

The Kittson County Commissioners had a light meeting on Tuesday, June 2.
They approved a resolution 26-09 regarding tax forfeited properties that didn’t sell in the most recent sale. These properties are in St. Vincent, Hallock and Kennedy.
“You need to classify these as non-conservation, and then they go back to the cities. If they have public use, the cities can take them first before you put them up for sale,” said County CFO Shirley Swenson.
Commissioner Theresia Gillie asked what happens should the cities not want the forfeited properties. Swenson said the county then puts them up for auction again.
The properties G N St. Vincent City 0.34 Acre lots 1 to 12, including block 4; Larsons Kennedy lots 1 and2, and lots 5 and 6, both in block A; and Orig. Hallock lots 11 and 12 of Block 15, and lot 10 of Block 15.
Blinds for courthouse
When several of the windows were replaced during the courthouse renovation project, window coverings were removed. They had been screwed into the window panes which caused damage. Although the cost of new blinds is under $5,000, Administrator Aimee Sugden brought the matter for approval by the board.
“We obviously want to preserve the new windows. We have chosen spring-loaded, no-drill blinds,” she said. “There are four different sizes of windows throughout the courthouse, so the order’s a little complex.”
