The Bearcats, led by pitchers Brock Scalese and Eli Peterson, fought valiantly but ultimately succumbed to the relentless pressure from the Freeze, who emerged victorious with a final score of 2-1.
The game, which took place at Karlstad, kept fans on the edge of their seats as both teams showcased their skill and determination. Despite a strong effort from the Bearcats, who managed to tally up 5 hits throughout the game, it was the Freeze who seized the opportunity to clinch the win. With 8 hits in their arsenal, the Freeze steadily chipped away at the Bearcats’ defense. A turning point in the game came in the fourth inning when KCC’s Isaac Gustafson dashed across home plate, courtesy of an infield single by Brody Scalese. The Bearcats took the lead, 1-0.
However, the Freeze refused to back down, mounting a comeback in the bottom of the sixth inning. A wild pitch from Bearcats’ pitcher Peterson allowed the Freeze to knot the score at 1-1, setting the stage for a thrilling conclusion. In the end, it was a Northern Freeze walk-off double by pitcher Cade Knutson in the bottom of the 10th that secured the team’s victory.
Despite the disappointment of defeat, the KCC Bearcats demonstrated resilience and sportsmanship throughout the game. KCC’s record is currently 0-5 with a busy week ahead hosting West Marshall and Red Lake County on Monday, May 6 and Tuesday, May 7 and traveling to Ada-Borup on Thursday, May 9.
