KCC vs. W-A-O
The Bearcats moved their season record to 8-1 with a Northern Lights Conference win over the Warren-Alvarado-Oslo Ponies on Tuesday, Sept. 10 in Hallock.
In set one, KCC took a bit longer than they wanted to find a groove. The Ponies found the floor on swings a few times and stopped two plays with a block, but it was mostly Bearcats putting points on the board. Middle hitter, Kaydence White, earned 7 of those points off kills, followed by Morgan Turn and Berlyn Strege with 2 kills each. Set one ended with a score 25-15.
In sets two and three, KCC held the Ponies to fewer points winning 25-10, 25-11. In sets two and three combined, the Bearcats tallied 9 aces and did a solid job keeping W-A-O out of system. Grace Faken earned a game-high 4 digs in the final two sets of the night, and Afton Lindgren put an exclamation point on the evening with an ace serve.
Overall serving for the night was below KCC’s goal of 92% at 90%. Thirteen aces helped the cause, but this experienced team needs to find a better balance between serving tough and making tough serves at a higher rate. There is still time to find this balance as there is lots of season left, and this team is committed to working toward their goals.

KCC vs. Warroad
The KCC Bearcat volleyball team was home for the fourth game in a row on Thursday, Sept. 12 in Lancaster where we hosted the Warroad Warriors, a class AA team. It was also our parents night for 2024.
After a somewhat slow start, KCC settled in and found a rhythm. The Bearcats missed 5 serves and had 5 hitting errors in the opening set. Despite that, they earned 19 of their 25 points. Seniors Berlyn Strege and Morgan Turn both had 4 kills in set one. Junior Kaydence White rounded out the offense with 6 kills to stun the Warroad defense. KCC won the set 25-18.
In set two, the Bearcats stayed more disciplined and improved their serve percentage. In this set, White and Turn shared high-kill honors. They each had 4, followed by junior Hanna Warnke with 3 and junior Afton Lindgren with 2, one of those kills being point 25 in the 25-12 win.
The final set was all Bearcats as they surged ahead to win 25-10. Four aces helped in the score, and Warnke ended the night on her point 25 ace. Strege and White knocked down 4 kills each, followed by Turn with 3 and Lindgren with 2. This solid offense was important because we didn’t record a single block on the night. The Warrior coverage picked up a lot and prevented that stat from happening.
We love a win any way it comes, but it’s extra special to win on parents night in front of a home crowd and against a AA team. With each set, the Bearcats played progressively better and more disciplined. Serve receive passing was pretty impressive all night. Our transition game can still use a bit of work, and we have to tighten up our serving, which was only 86%. But overall, the girls played a pretty clean game in regards to points earned versus points errored. This win moves the Bearcats’ season record to 9 wins and 1 loss.
