Bearcats girls win opening season game at home

By Mark Johnson, coach
KCC 72 – F-C 27
The Bearcats hosted the Fisher-Climax Knights on Tuesday, Nov. 26 at Kittson Central. It was the first game action of the season for KCC, and they wanted to start things off on the right foot in front of their home crowd.
It didn’t take long for the Bearcats to get it rolling. KCC opened the game scoring off the opening tip and immediately put full-court pressure on the Knights forcing turnovers early and often.
The Bearcats jumped to a 7-0 lead and made it difficult for the Knights to get anything established on their offensive end of the floor. Midway through the first half, the Bearcats started to pile up some team fouls that eventually led to free throws and slowed the game down to a pace that was more favorable to the Knights.
KCC continued to play a pesky and active defensive game, but the fouls started to put Fisher-Climax on the free throw line to try and chip away at the Bearcat lead and get some rest at the same time. Even though the game slowed down a bit, the Bearcats continued to find opportunities to stretch the floor and create quality offensive possessions.
KCC built a 44-19 halftime lead on the back of strong defensive play and offensive efficiency.
The Bearcats continued to dictate the style and pace of play in the second half. With the significant lead, KCC pulled off the full court pressure and settled into their half court defense. The Bearcats kept their defensive intensity ramped up, cut off the passing lanes, and controlled the boards in the second half and cruised to a 72-27 win.
The girls were ready to get some game action. They did a nice job of dictating the style of play and kept up their intensity throughout the entire contest. They did a nice job on both ends of the floor.
