Bearcats dominate Bears in first game after break

By Coach Mark Johnson
KCC 87 – LOW 27
The Bearcats returned to the hardwood on Friday, Jan. 3 after a long holiday break. KCC headed east to Baudette to face the Lake of the Woods Bears.
It didn’t take long for the Bearcats to take control of the contest. KCC’s full-court pressure pushed LOW into panic mode and the Bearcats feasted on turnovers and quick baskets. When they weren’t getting steals, KCC funneled the ball inside the LOW zone defense and converted on low-post opportunities. KCC just kept pulling away at a steady clip and posted a 62-18 half-time lead.
The second half was over in a flash. Because of the lopsided score the game went to running time in the last 9 minutes of play.
KCC controlled the second half in a similar fashion to the first half. The Bearcats held the Bears to 9 points in the half and cruised to the 87-27 win and moved their season record to 8-1.
It was good for us to get back on the court. With a long layoff between games, you can never be sure how things are going to go. It went pretty well. We just need to stay sharp on both ends of the floor and not lose our focus. The girls have done a good job in those situations.
