Bearcat volleyball team defeats WAO
By Coach Tina Turn
KCC 3 – WAO 0
Kittson County Central played host to the second home match of the season when the Ponies of Warren-Alvarado-Oslo came to town on Tuesday, Sept. 9.
Bearcat offense was generated by three hitters, who combined for 13 kills in set one. Kaydence White led the stats with 8 kills, followed by Hanna Warnke with 4 kills and Halle Hansen added in a single. KCC won 25-20, but likely would have won by a larger margin if not for 5 missed serves in the opening set.
In set two, the Bearcats did better from the serving line, by only missing 2 serves and also punching over 8 aces. White led the offense again in the set, and she also garnered the only block of the night in set two. Senior setter Afton Lindgren closed out the set with an ace and a 25-13 victory.
Five players got on the board statistically for kills in set three. Middle hitters White and Warnke each had 3. Hansen added 2, and Kami Hanson came off the bench to record a pair, while Brynn Hennen scored on 1 kill. KCC had 6 aces in the final set, which greatly helped the team to a 25-17 win.
This Northern Lights Conference victory moves the Bearcat season record to 6 wins and 3 losses. It seems the girls “ate their Wheaties” before the game as they launched a ton of serves long and out. They somewhat made up for it with 16 aces, but the low serving percentage isn’t something that will help the team win in most matches. We will need to clean that up. Overall, the team did a good job earning their points and staying focused. It was fun to see a couple players come off the bench and contribute to the win as well.
Next, we take it to the road and travel to Warroad on Thursday.
