Marilyn Anderson, 94

Marilyn Anderson, 94, of Hallock, Minn., passed away peacefully on Saturday, Oct. 18, 2025, at Kittson Memorial Healthcare.
Marilyn Ann Anderson was born on April 10, 1931, to Elmer and Nancy Johnson. Marilyn attended school in Hallock and graduated in 1948. She attended Gustavus Adolphus and graduated from the University of Minnesota in 1952 with a degree in Language Arts Education. She taught English in Brooten, Lancaster, and Hallock, Minn.
On April 10, 1954, she was married to the light of her life, Charles Anderson, in Brooten, Minn. They had three children, Nancy (Tom) Kerzman, Ronald (Alicia) Anderson, and Susan (Kirby) Plaine. Marilyn had seven grandchildren, 19 great-grandchildren, two great-great grandchildren, and one arriving in the spring.
Charles and Marilyn took over the family farm in 1966. Along with shuttling Charles from the farm to the field and running for whatever part was needed, she became well known for her wonderful hot meals served in the field on the tailgate of the family station wagon. After she left teaching in 1976, she continued to be Charles’ constant supporter, cared for her mother, helped with grandchildren, and kept a wonderful home where there were always cookies and coffee ready for whoever might stop by.
During her teaching career, Marilyn made an impact on many students. Over the years, many of those students returned to thank her for not just being a great teacher, but for caring about them as a person.
Marilyn participated in several church activities. She taught Sunday school, confirmation, attended Bible studies and LCW. She was very proud to be the oldest living member who was both baptized and confirmed at Grace Lutheran Church. Marilyn was passionate about reading and writing, especially writing scripts. One of her most enjoyable contributions was co-writing and directing the Hallock Centennial Pageant in 1983, titled, “Glimpses from the Gazebo.” She also enjoyed quilting. She made many, many blankets for family, friends and lots of babies!
She is survived by: her children, grandchildren, and sister, Helen Mae Nelson.
She was preceded in death by: her husband, Charles; her parents; and granddaughter, Angie Plaine.
Marilyn’s greatest joy was being married to Charles. Their love story is known and admired by many. The way they cared for each other and demonstrated their love for their family was an inspiration to all who knew them.
A funeral service for Marilyn is scheduled for Thursday, Oct. 23 at 11 a.m. at Grace Lutheran Church in Hallock. Visitation will be held at the church for an hour before the service. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that memorials be given to Hallock Flowers and/or Kittson County Hospice.
