Dwight Nelson, 76
Dwight Edward Nelson, 76, of Kennedy, Minnesota passed away at Heather’s Hospice House in Fargo, North Dakota, on February 9, 2026.
He was born on April 7, 1949, to Floyd and Martha (Lindholm) Nelson and was baptized and confirmed at Maria Lutheran Church. He graduated from high school in 1967, then attended Thief River Falls vocational school. He enlisted in the Navy, serving four years. After his discharge, he spent some time on the East Coast before returning to Kennedy. He worked at American Crystal Sugar in Drayton until his retirement in 2011.
Dwight was “Uncle Buck” to his nieces and nephews and entertained them with fractured fairy tales. “Intercella and the Prancesome Hince” was a favorite.
Dwight had a good voice and loved being a member of 42nd St., a local theater group. Other pastimes included fishing, hunting, and cooking.
He was a regular at Kennedy Café and the VFW, enjoying socializing with the locals. Friends will remember and miss his sense of humor and wit.
Dwight spent his life dedicated to his faith. He loved to share his singing voice to praise God. Kennedy Covenant Church was his worship home.
He is survived by his mother, Martha Nelson; sisters, Suzanne(Terry) Berg, Connie Nelson, Renae (Rick) Hendrickson, and Rachel Gustafson; seven nieces and nephews; and numerous great nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his brother-in-law, Rick Hendrickson and his father, Floyd Nelson.
A joint memorial service for Dwight and his mother, Martha, will be held at Kennedy Covenant Church on Saturday, April 25, 2026, at 2:00 p.m. Visitation will be held at the church for an hour before the service. Interment will be in Kennedy City Cemetery.
