Bonnie Anderson, 86

Bonnie Anderson, 86, of Warren, Minn., passed away unexpectedly at Altru Hospital on Saturday, May 2, 2026, with her family by her side.
Bonnie Ray (Hahn) Anderson was born on Feb. 3, 1940, to Ruth (Fick) and Stanley Hahn in Strandquist, Minn. Bonnie has lived in many different places, with the last place residing at North Star Manor in Warren.
Bonnie raised four children while staying at home, while dad worked outside the home providing for the family. Bonnie worked outside of the home later in life, including at Home of Economy, Ben Franklin Crafts and others. She had a passion for crafts and plants. She was well known for growing ferns. If anyone messed with her ferns – Rick may have a story or two about that – she was not happy at all. Her plants were one of her many pride and joys. Bonnie also loved painting ceramics. The house was always filled with her pieces that she painted and now we all have some of her pieces to cherish.
In her later years, her pride and joy was her grandchildren and her great-grandchildren. She had eight grandchildren and three great-grandchildren and one more on the way that she did not get to meet yet. While in the nursing home, her great-granddaughter, Marlie, would come to visit and Marlie would hop on “GiGi’s” walker (that is what Marlie called her), and they would walk down to the dining room together. Anytime anyone asked about her children, grandchildren or great-grandchildren, she had a smile so big that anyone could see it.
Bonnie also loved dogs. Growing up there were always dogs and cats in the house for the kids, but more for her. Anytime one pet passed away, dad would always say no more pets. Of course, we always knew that was not true, because another one would come home to live with us.
Bonnie’s only son, Rick, passed away in 2013 and then her husband, Gerald, passed away in 2019. Even though Bonnie never showed it, she was heartbroken when these life events happened. She is now reunited with her husband and son again. She is going to be missed by many, and her daughters will keep her spirit alive for the grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
She is survived by Barbara Thorsteinson, Kennedy, Minn.; Patty Anderson, Ohio; and Tracy Anderson, Grand Forks, N.D. Her beloved grandchildren include: Nathan, Daphnie (Ryan), Billy, Carson, Talon (Chris), Tayla, Thailin (Dylan), and Tay. Her great-grandchildren include: Azlyn, Archer, Marlie, and one on the way. Her brothers, David (Shirley) Hahn, Donald (Lorraine) Hahn, and Michael Hahn. Her sister, Kay (Dennis) Viereck. Her brothers-in-law, Arlen Anderson and David (Lynn) Anderson; and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by: her husband, Gerald Anderson; her son, Rick Anderson; her mom and stepdad, Ruth and Sheldon Nyhus; her mother- and father-in-law, Melvin and Ida Anderson; her sister Sandra (Curtis) Koland and her brother-in-law Paul (Linda) Anderson and Dennis Viereck; as well as her great granddaughter, Maggie.
A Celebration of Life will be held on Wednesday, May 6, 2026, at 11 a.m. in Austin Funeral Chapel, Hallock, MN. Visitation will be held in the chapel for one hour prior to the service. Interment will be in Riverside Cemetery, Lake Bronson.
