Bearcats sweep Bears in final regular season game

By Coach Tina Turn
The Bearcats saved their longest road trip of the regular season for the final match. On Monday, Oct. 13, they made the two-hour trek north to Baudette to face the Lake of the Woods Bears.
KCC opened the night with solid energy and carried it through the entire first set. Early on, senior Afton Lindgren stepped to the service line and delivered 8 straight serves, including 3 aces, that pushed the Bears out of system. The Bearcats never looked back, cruising to a 25-12 first-set win.
In the second set, serving continued to be a difference-maker. Six different Bearcats combined for 9 aces, keeping the Bears on their heels and limiting their offensive rhythm. After a sluggish start that saw KCC fall behind early, the team quickly recovered and closed strong, taking the set 25-16.
The third set belonged to senior Kaydence White, who caught fire at the net. She hammered down 9 of her 19 total kills in the final frame. The Bearcats’ blocking also came up big, sealing another decisive victory, 25-15, to complete the sweep.
The win capped KCC’s regular season with a 19-9 record. Historically, this matchup has been a challenging one—the long bus ride and quiet, cavernous gym can make it tough to generate energy. But on this night, the Bearcats overcame all of that. Their focus, consistency, and positive energy made for a strong and satisfying finish to the regular season
