Household hazardous waste and unused med dropoff is July 28 in Kittson County
Kittson County will be holding Household Hazardous Waste Collections to dispose of residents’ unwanted household waste products and chemicals throughout the county. Consider also cleaning out medicine cabinets and turning in over-the-counter and prescription drugs safely and anonymously at the same convenient drop off location. Also, avoid having misplaced, or unneeded drugs stolen by cleaning out your medicine cabinet. This service is FREE to residents of Kittson County.
Lancaster and Lake Bronson household hazardous waste only collection events are scheduled for Tuesday, July 28. The Lancaster event will be located at the Lancaster City Shop from 9 to 11 a.m. and the Lake Bronson event will be located at the Lake Bronson City Shop between 11:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.
Each event is available for drop off regardless of city of residence. Choose the date and time that is most convenient.
In Karlstad, the event will include a household hazardous waste and unused medication disposal drop off located at the Tri-County School parking lot from 1 to 3 p.m.
An additional Hallock dropoff date will be held Monday, Aug. 10 from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m. at the Hallock Ice Arena.
Americans generate 1.6 million tons of waste each year from common household products. Leftovers of these products, often referred to as Household Hazardous Waste, may contain corrosive, toxic, flammable or reactive ingredients. Improper disposal of household hazardous waste includes pouring them down the drain, on the ground, into storm sewers or in some cases putting them in the trash. Disposing of these materials in this manner pollutes the environment.
Unused or expired prescription medications are a public safety issue. Proper disposal of unneeded drugs saves lives and protects the environment and our overall community.
The Kittson County Substance Use Prevention Task Force is partnering to make medication disposal now even easier.
The following household hazardous waste will be accepted: Paint, paint thinner, acids, grease and degreasers, rust, mold, and mildew removers, aerosol products, weed and insect killer, drain and oven cleaners, mercury thermometers or thermostats, rechargeable and watch batteries. PLEASE NO EARLY DROP OFFS.
ALSO NOTE: We are not accepting empty paint or chemical containers, used motor oil, tires, batteries (AAA, AA, A, C, D, 9V, and automotive), explosives and ammunition, or electronics. Also, no products will be taken from businesses at this time. This event is for households only. *Please do not drop off materials unless the household hazardous waste truck and attendants are present*.
