Peterson sisters hired as Kittson Central elementary teachers, Swenson hired as head custodian

Kittson Central School Board met Wednesday, Feb. 27 and hired two new teachers and a head custodian.
Bailey Peterson was hired as an elementary teacher assigned to first grade.
Kalli Peterson, Bailey’s older sister, was hired as an elementary teacher assigned to kindergarten.
The assignments are likely but the assignments can change due to the number of students changing from the predicted numbers at this time or other staffing changes.
Owen Swenson was hired as the head custodian. Swenson has 14 years experience.
The board approved the final 2018-19 Budget which shows a total revenue of $4,601,970 and expenditures of $4,966,449. The food service is one area that always has a deficit, with income of $134,100 and expenditures of $153,597. Community service, which includes the preschool program, also had a significant deficit with income of $58,837 and expenditures of $135,259. General fund revenues were $3,989,625 and expenditures were $4,165,153. The general fund includes all the staff salaries and instructional materials.
The debt service fund showed a surplus. Debt service had $404,783 of income and $373,740 expenditures.
The trust fund, which is scholarship funding, had $14,625 of income and $14,900, showing a deficit of only $275.
The board also approved the first reading of the 500 series policies and the second reading of the 600 series policies. These will be approved at future meetings throughout the year.
The board adjourned and will hold its next meeting Wednesday, March 27, 8 p.m.
