Bearcats nip Ice Dawgs and topple Detroit Lakers to remain undefeated

On Monday, Dec. 2, Kittson County Central picked up their third hockey win of the season by defeating the May-Port Area Ice Dawgs on the road, 9-7.
The Bearcats opened the scoring with a goal by Hayden Hennen assisted by Tyler Hennen. The period ended with the Bearcats leading 1-0.
May-Port tied the game in the second period on an unassisted power play goal by Sawyer Satrom. KCC answered with unassisted goals by Hayden Hennen and Calvin Hanson to make the score 3-1. Tyler Bakken scored on the power play, assisted by Hayden Olsonawski to increase the Bearcats’ lead to 4-1. Satrom scored short-handed for the Ice Dawgs, assisted by Sammy Satrom to close out the second period.
The third period featured continuing back-and-forth scoring between the two teams. May-Port’s Jake Vanwerts scored, assisted by Andrew Aarsvold to cut the Bearcats’ lead to 4-3. The Bearcats answered with another goal by Hanson, unassisted. Sawyer Satrom scored two more goals for May-Port to tie the game at 5-5, the first assisted by Verwest and the second on a power play assisted by Mitchell Coleman. Hanson added two more goals for the Bearcats, the first assisted by Adam Gustafson and Landon Sugden, and the second assisted by Alex Lindegard and Sugden. Sawyer Satrom scored again for the Ice Dawgs to cut the lead to 7-6. Calvin Hanson scored his fifth goal of the game assisted by Hayden Hennen to make it 8-6. Sawyer Satrom added another Ice Dawg goal assisted by Sammy Satrom to cut the Bearcats’ lead to 8-7. Sugden added a goal assisted by Hanson and Gustafson to make the final score 9-7.
The Kittson County Central Junior Varsity team lost 3-9 to May-Port. Izyk Strege scored the Bearcats’ first two goals and Tyler Hennen added the third goal. Isaac Lindegard was in the net for the Bearcats.

On Saturday, Dec. 7, Kittson County Central traveled to face and defeated the Detroit Lakers. The final score was 5-2.
The Bearcats opened the scoring in the first period on a power play goal by Hayden Hennen, assisted by Tyler Hennen and Calvin Hanson. The Lakers answered with a goal by Lukas Justesen assisted by Hunter Burnside and Jake Green. L. Sugden added a goal for the Bearcats assisted by Adam Gustafson and Hayden Hennen to give Kittson County Central a 2-1 lead to end the first period.
In the second period, Kittson County Central increased their lead to 3-1 with a power play goal by Sugden assisted by Gustafson and Tyler Hennen. Detroit Lakes cut the lead to 3-2 with a power play goal by Spencer Bergman assisted by Alex Bren and Braeden Wimmer. L. Sugden attained the hat trick with a power play goal assisted by Hanson and H. Hennen. The second period ended with the Bearcats leading 4-2.
In the third period, Hanson added the final Kittson County Central goal, assisted by H. Hennen.
The Kittson County Central Junior Varsity team fell by a score of 7-0 to the Lakers.
