PeeWees ready to hit the ice at Regions

By Jack Waters
The Hallock Youth Hockey PeeWee Bearcats, fresh off finishing second in the district playoffs in Red Lake Falls the weekend of Feb. 21, are now preparing to represent Hallock for regions. They will play in the Minnesota Hockey PeeWee B1 North Region Tournament in Roseau and will face Ely at 6 p.m. Friday, Feb. 27.
The regions await, where the lights get a little brighter and the game moves a bit faster but the PeeWee Bearcats have proven they are up to the task.
Minnesota Hockey Region Tournaments use a double elimination format to determine which teams move on to complete in the state tournament in each level.
Coach Brett Sobolik gave a glimpse of the team that not only scores goals, but also achieves them. The season has been defined by success and he shows how he keeps the locker room focused and what to expect as the PeeWee Bearcats pack their bags, tape their sticks and prepare to hit the ice at regions.
It’s quite the milestone, but what does it mean to the team to get to regions?
“It shows all the hard work the kids put in this year. The work and travel paid off. The goal was to get here and beyond, to move on from regions. I think they’re all pretty excited,” said Sobolik.
