KCC football kicks off 2023 season with a win over BGMR

By Asst. Coach Mark Bernstrom
The KCC Bearcats were on the road for the first game of the season, as they traveled to Badger to take on the Gators.
BGMR started the game with the ball and were able to move down the field with a couple of big third down runs. The Bearcat defense was able to keep them from scoring with a goal line stand. This was a huge momentum shift in the game. KCC was able to score quickly with a long scoring play, a pass from Dylon Warnke to Gavin Johnson to take the lead.
Later in the first quarter Morgan Muir scored to extend the lead. The defense continued to stop the Gators from gaining any momentum in the first half as they made them punt on most of their offensive possessions.
Late in the second quarter, Muir scored again. Then Warnke recorded an interception to set up a chance to add to their lead before halftime. In the final seconds of the half Warnke found Ty Vig for a passing touchdown to extend the lead 28-0 at halftime.
In the second half it didn’t take long for the coaches to start subbing down. The underclassmen were able to rotate through the second half and get lots of plays in.
Two other players were able to find the endzone. Ashton Knutson ran in for a score in the third quarter, and Eli Muir found the endzone in the fourth quarter. This was the first varsity game for both freshmen, and they both got to record a touchdown. The Bearcat defense was able to keep the Gators out of the endzone the whole game and won 39-0.
The next game is Friday, Sept. 8, 3:30 p.m., in Lancaster against the Northern Freeze.
