Warren was the destination Tuesday night, Sept. 12 when the Bearcats headed south to take on the WAO Ponies in some Northern Lights Conference action. It was a quick night as the Bearcats won 25-21, 25-10, 25-10.
In set one, the Bearcats didn’t come out swinging like they would have liked. Seven hitting errors, 3 serving errors, and some net violations kept the Ponies close in points. It was Afton Lindgren’s string of tough serves at point 19 that helped lead the team to victory.
In set two, KCC demonstrated solid and consistent play. At every attempt at the line, servers went on a 2-3 point plus run. At the net, Morgan Turn led with 4 kills, and Hanna Warnke recorded 2 aces of the 4 aces logged in the set.
In the final set, it was Kaydence White who recorded 4 kills and 3 blocks to pace her team. Lauryn Whitlock, Warnke and Lindgren also recorded blocks in the set, and the Bearcats ended the night with an exclamation point behind 2 White solo blocks and a Berlyn Strege kill.
Strege and Grace Faken led with double-digit digs defensively, and Lily Peterson passed a nearly perfect 2.88 on serve receive.
This win moves the Bearcat season record to 7-2.

KCC at Warroad
For the second time in a week, the Bearcats went on a road trip; this time it was to the home of the Warroad Warriors, a Class AA school.
Other than a net violation on the first play of the set, the Bearcats played some pretty clean volleyball to open the night. Sophomore Kaydence White slammed in 6 kills to establish a strong offensive presence at the net. Berlyn Strege added in 3 of her 7 kills in set one. At the serving line, Morgan Turn forced the Warrior serve receive into a tizzy with 3 service aces in a row. White ended the set with a big kill for a 25-13 win.
In set two, KCC only had 4 errors in the entire set. Servers were tough at the line with four servers serving for a string of 4 or more serves. Once again, Turn had 3 aces in the set, and White paced the attack with 5 kills and added a couple of defensive blocks to help her team win solidly 25-12.
In the final set, Turn served 14 in a row, nabbing 2 aces in the run. The Warriors didn’t have an answer for White who went on to record 7 kills. Turn, Strege and Lauryn Whitlock each added a pair in the united effort. Hanna Warnke made 5 big digs to round out the 25-11 decisive win.
At one point, the score was 16-1 in favor of us. It is nice to see the girls sustain their elevated play in a situation like that. When it’s a game that involves a long bus ride on a school night, it’s always nice to win in three, and the girls can be proud of their solid play for all three sets. This win moves the Bearcat season record to 8 wins and 2 losses.
