KCC Bearcats lose back-to-back games on the ice

The Kittson County Central Bearcats hockey team hosted the Crookston Pirates on Tuesday, Nov. 28. The Bearcats came out strong until the 10:45 mark in the first period where Crookston’s Blake Melsa scored an unassisted goal to put the Pirates up 1-0.
The Pirates got 15 shots on Jameson Turner in the first period while the Bearcats struggled to get the puck in net. The Bearcats ended the first period with only 4 total shots.
In the second period, the Pirates gained solid momentum and scored 2 unanswered goals around the 13 minute mark, putting themselves up 3-0.
While the Bearcats tried to battle back, Wyatt Samuelson scored and made it a 3-1 game. The Bearcats kept the Pirates’ shots down in the second period as they had 13, while the Bearcats had 6 shots to finish the period.
Third-period scoring picked up for the Pirates as they tallied 2 unanswered goals, putting them up 5-1.
The Bearcats were unable to produce any more scoring chances and fell 5-1 to the Pirates.
The total shots were Crookston, 48 and Bearcats, 19.

The Bearcats took on the MayPort Ice Dawgs on Thursday, Nov. 30. The Bearcats put up a good fight throughout the game, but fell short of a win. Coming out strong in the first period, Wyatt Samuelson scored the first goal of the night for KCC. The Bearcats ended up on the penalty kill and let up a goal scored by MayPort’s Wyatt Heskin. This endedthe period tied at 1-1.
To start the second period, MayPort scored 5 minutes into the period to put them up 2-1. With MayPort getting a penalty, KCC was able to use the powerplay in their favor as Eli Muir scored to tie the game up 2-2. KCC came back with momentum after tying the game, as Samuelson scored at the end of the second period to put KCC up 3-2.
In the third period, KCC came out slow and let up 2 unanswered goals to the Ice Dawgs, which then put MayPort up 4-3. With 1:15 left in the third period, KCC attempted to pull Turner to then have a 6-on-5 advantage. Shortly after pulling Turner, the Ice Dawgs scored an empty net goal to win with a final score of 5-3.
