KCC baseball starts season with losses to BGMR Gators and Sacred Heart Eagles

By Chad Kujava, coach
The KCC Bearcats baseball spring season has begun with 17 players in grades 9-12. The team will be led by its two seniors, Morgan Muir and Dana Brown. There are three juniors playing — Brooks Nordin, Isaac Gustafson and Kaden Seurer. The sophomore players are Alex Peterson, Lucas Johnson, and Brock and Brody Scalese. The freshman participants are Eli Muir, Eli Peterson, Sam Webster, James Cerkowniak, Ashton Knutson, Devin Seurer, Track Folland and Kellen Johnson.
The Bearcats currently have zero wins and 2 losses in Northwest Diamond action after a pair of losses at home to BGMR and to Sacred Heart.
KCC came up a little short against BGMR on Tuesday, April 9 at home. This was a narrow loss of 4-5 in 7 innings.
On Friday, April 12, the Bearcats ran into state-ranked Sacred Heart at home and lost 0-19 in 5 innings.
Although the teams is struggling to start the season, there have been some positive plays by the Bearcats to start the year. The defense has completed a couple of double plays and has only a couple errors.
Where the Bearcats need to improve the most is hitting and pitching, which is a huge part of the game. KCC has gotten out-hit in those early contests 6-18 and pitchers have had too many walks and beaned batters to give their opponents easy base runners.
This is a great group of kids with good work ethic and positive attitudes, so improvements will be made as the season progresses.
KCC next plays the Northern Freeze on Tuesday, April 16 at Karlstad and West Marshall on Monday, April 22 in Argyle.
