Lancaster raises $2,500 during Hoops for Heart
On Thursday, Dec. 12, students at Lancaster Elementary jumped all over heart disease by participating in Hoops For Heart. The students raised more than $2,500 for the American Heart Associa-tion.
Donations raised for Hoops For Heart help fund research, fight heart disease and stroke, and support the American Heart Association’s public and professional education programs. Heart disease is the No. 1 killer in America and stroke is the No. 3.
“This year’s event was a huge success,” said Chad Kujava, Hoops For Heart coordinator. “We’re very proud of all the students here at Lancaster, and we all had a lot of fun.”
Edy Hilman, Lauryn Whitlock and the sixth grade class did a fantastic job of leading Lancaster students in grades 2 through 5 in this event. They helped teach the students about the importance of exercise and how to make healthy nutritional choices.
Hoops For Heart is a program that promotes physical fitness and heart health through the fun activity of basketball. It is co-sponsored by the American Heart Association and the American Alliance for Health, Physical Education, Recreation and Dance.
