Bronsonfest to help mark Lake Bronson’s 120th year
Lake Bronson will be celebrating its 120th anniversary Thursday, July 31 through Sunday, Aug. 3.
On Thursday, July 31, the Kittson County Historical Society will hold bingo at the Village Square in Lake Bronson beginning at 6 p.m. The Bronson Market Sub Shack will be serving specials that evening.
On Friday, Aug. 1, activities begin at 5 p.m. with three-on-three basketball contests at the city park. The Lancaster junior class will serve a taco meal beginning at 5 p.m. at the Village Square. The Bronson Market Sub Shack will also be open that evening.
At 8 p.m., the Kittson County Historical Society will host an outside concert behind the museum, by the historic Soo Line depot. “The Acoust Hicks,” a rock band from Bemidji, will be performing classic and new rock. This program is made possible with a grant from the Northwest Minnesota Arts Council through funding from the Minnesota State Legislature and local sponsors. Everyone is welcome.
On Saturday, activities begin at 8 a.m. with a free pancake breakfast at the Village Square, sponsored by the Lake Bronson Elevator. There will be craft and flea market vendors throughout the day, kids games and bouncy houses, jigsaw puzzle and sidewalk chalk competitions, music and trivia bingo, and chainsaw carving.
Lake Bronson State Park and the Minnesota Historical Society will also be hosting lake bed walking tours at 9 a.m., 11 a.m., 1 p.m. and 3 p.m. This is an opportunity to come and learn some history and see what the lakebed looks like since it was drained for the dam replacement project. This tour is free, however, state park passes will be required. The walking tours will be approximately one hour long.
The MHS archeologists have found some interesting historical items in the past few weeks.
At 6 p.m., the parade will begin, followed by a street dance at 8 p.m. with music by “Rhyme or Reason.”
On Sunday, at 10 a.m., there will be a community church service followed by a potluck dinner at the Village Square.
