Board approves low quotes for road projects

By Anna Jauhola
The Kittson County Commissioners approved two bids for construction projects this summer during the Thursday, March 5 meeting. The commission didn’t have a quorum on Tuesday, March 3, but met in a special meeting with three members present.
Vice Chair Ryan Swenson ran the meeting. Also present were Brad Johnson and Derry Jones.
County Engineer Arthur Kukowski presented the project quotes for replacing an apron end of a culvert on CSAH 10 along Lake Bronson. The low quote came from Ralph Twamley Construction for $13,090.50, which was $11,000 cheaper than the other bid from Triple D Construction.
“We need to pull off the ends of the culverts, dig it out and rebuild that base,” Kukowski said. “Then put the culvert ends back on.”
There is an apron that’s broken on that culvert, so the highway department has already ordered that. The highway mechanic, Jason Weleski, is also going to fabricate a beaver guard to go over both the pipes in that location.
Assistant County Engineer Keith Klegstad said the culverts will also receive lining as a part of a project later in the summer.
