Case continued after attorney doesn’t appear

By Anna Jauhola
The case regarding a killing in Hallock was once again continued last week due to miscommunication and lack of information.
In March 2025, Jordan Hanson was arrested for the shooting death of Justin Esparza at a Hallock residence. She has been incarcerated at Pennington County Jail in Thief River Falls ever since. She is charged with one count of second degree murder and one count of second degree murder without intent to cause death but with assault in the second degree with a dangerous weapon.
During the remote online hearing on Wednesday, March 18, Hanson’s attorney Alexander Reichert did not appear. Instead an attorney from his office, Amanda Corey, appeared on his behalf.
“We’re not sure what happened. I guess we didn’t have notice. It wasn’t on our calendar. But we’ll get to the bottom of it,” Corey said.
Corey noted that Reichert teaches every Wednesday morning, and his partner Challis Williams was not available to appear. She added she is not a litigator and was only asking for a continuance.
