Lancaster School still struggling with new boiler

By Jack Waters
The Lancaster School Board is working on continuing frustrations with the new boiler system. The board heard from Michael Peterson, who has a boiler license and assists with the system, during the regular meeting on Wednesday, March 25.
The relatively newly installed boiler system has caused frustration at the school. Peterson reported it has faced multiple failures, including burnt-out elements. Further issues stem from the confusion on who is accountable for the issue among the manufacturer Cleaver-Brooks, the installer PBBS and the vendor Johnson Controls.
Peterson expressed what he called optimistic frustration and said the school should not be liable for repair costs. He said at the very least they are seeking a warranty extension since the boiler has not functioned reliably during its first year, and since the cold season is almost through, the initial warranty might expire before a solution is reached.
